The capacity of a normal organism to remain unaffected by microorganisms and their toxins. It results from non-specific mechanisms such as naturally occurring antiviral and bactericidal substances, PHAGOCYTOSIS, and constitutional factors such as BODY TEMPERATURE, oxygen tension, and age.
